Argentina approved gay marriage yesterday, making it the first country in South America to allow same-sex couples to legally marry. I can’t help but notice that the last two countries to legalize gay marriage have had a women president calling the shots. Coincidence?

Casting Call: Engaged Couples!

The creators and producers of the The Biggest Loser are now casting for a new show, Shedding for the Wedding. They’re looking for outgoing, competitive couples who want to lose between 50-100 lbs each before they walk down the aisle.

They contacted MBFGW because they would love to find a same-sex couple for the show. The prize is a dream wedding for the winning couple.

If you’re interested in being on the show, email photos of both you and your fiance to shed2wedcasting@gmail.com along with a brief description of yourselves and how you envision your dream wedding (be creative!) Then you both need to fill out the online application, both you and your fiance must fill out individual applications. Good luck!

Our engagement story is featured on Equally Wed, the new gay wedding website! Irene and I actually had a chance to meet the two founders of Equally Wed at the Illegal Wedding Fair last month in NYC. Thanks for including us EW!

Google has announced they will begin grossing up the salaries of employees who incur the additional cost of domestic partnership benefits. If you’re like me, and have never heard the term ‘grossing up’, check out this explanation on the HRC Website.

Employees with these benefits pay approximately $1,000 more per year (each) in taxes than heterosexual married employees with the same coverage.  While Google definitely deserves a lot of credit for being one of the first companies to not only acknowledge but compensate for this ridiculous disparity, major kudos should also go to the Google employee who brought it to the Executive’s attention.

Read more about it on the Official Google Blog.

As if Iceland was cool enough already…

Iceland is the world’s only country with an openly gay head of government, Johanna Sigurdardottir. On Sunday, Iceland’s Parliment voted *unanimously* in favor of legalizing Gay Marriage and with no further delay, Prime Minister Sigurdardottir married her partner. If only we knew where they were registered, I’d send them a chip ‘n’ dip.

I am Jewish and Irene was raised Catholic, but it feels weird to refer to ourselves as an interfaith couple. I think of interfaith as segregated; two people with totally different beliefs and traditions and that’s definitely not us.

Irene and I share the same values and both appreciate each others background and enjoy observing each others traditions. So when it came time to decide who will marry us there wasn’t a clear answer. At first, I thought it was most important for us to be married by a gay or lesbian officiant. I realized quickly that wasn’t really important. read more »

Guess who’s in the Summer 2010 edition of The Knot magazine!

I’m quoted on page 18 because I’m the moderator for the Gay Weddings community board.

I guess we’re supposed to be excited that Laura Bush has “come out” and said gays should be allowed to marry. I can’t help but be reminded of almost one year ago when Dick Cheney had his revelation about same-sex marriage.

These two had 8 years to speak up for us, thanks for nothing!

When we first chose October 10th as our wedding date, we checked the Farmers’ Almanac to see what time the sun sets that day. You can also look up the weather history for your location but you have to do a search for each year individually which is a huge pain.

I  just tried out this Wedding Planner on weather.com. I plugged in our date and got this report based on the last 30 years of weather!
