Did you know… there are 25 states in the US that allow first cousins to marry but only 5 that allow same-sex marriage?

I went to a taping of the Martha Stewart Show today! It was a special show and the audience was filled with all brides. The show turned out to be destination weddings and it was co-hosted by Darcy Miller, the Editorial Director for Martha Stewart Weddings magazine. Love her!

I’m not particularly interested in destination weddings, but I did get some great parting gifts! Each audience member got a great lesportsac weekend bag, Sally Hershberger hair products, and a photo printer. YAY free stuff!

UPDATE: After thinking about it all evening, I realized I will die if I have to sit on a bus for 9 hours in one day (and that’s assuming there’s no traffic.)

Now, I think Amtrak is really the way to go, even though it costs more. I was able to find us a $98 round trip fare that wouldn’t require an overnight, so that’s what we’ll do… until I change my mind again.

June 2nd, 2009

In case you didn’t get the memo, June 1 was our sixth anniversary! Irene has been working her butt off, and putting up with a lot of my bridal craziness and I wanted to do something special to surprise her.

So last Sunday, I packed a picnic and we took the Water Taxi over to Randall’s Island where we saw Cirque du Solei. Afterwards, there were fireworks over the East River in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the 59th Street bridge.

Sometimes, I can’t believe its already been six years. Other times, it feels like I’ve known her all life.

There was a note on the Knot message board from a woman who is getting married in two weeks and looking to unload all her bridal magazines. Problem was, she’s all the way uptown and I had no way to get them.

I told Irene, and she hopped on her bicycle and went all the way uptown and picked up about 20lbs of magazines and brought them home for me!

I am now in hog heaven, rolling around in a year’s worth of bridal porn.

One of the sites I’ve been cruising for wedding inspiration featured a lesbian wedding this week!

April 1st, 2009

Tonight was the New York Weddings Event.  I met a couple of the caterers I’ve spoken to over the phone, tasted a few cakes, entered about a dozen raffles and got some bridal schwag.

We had a pretty good time, but after about an hour, Irene had had enough so she took our 600-lb gift bags and headed off to the lounge area for a beer with the all other husbands.

Today is the one year anniversary of our engagement… or as I like to call it, my ring’s birthday.

What’s funny is that I didn’t even remember that we were engaged on St. Patrick’s Day… and I hate St. Patrick’s Day.
