Google has announced they will begin grossing up the salaries of employees who incur the additional cost of domestic partnership benefits. If you’re like me, and have never heard the term ‘grossing up’, check out this explanation on the HRC Website.

Employees with these benefits pay approximately $1,000 more per year (each) in taxes than heterosexual married employees with the same coverage.  While Google definitely deserves a lot of credit for being one of the first companies to not only acknowledge but compensate for this ridiculous disparity, major kudos should also go to the Google employee who brought it to the Executive’s attention.
