Yesterday the New York State Senate debated and then rejected the gay marriage bill. It was extremely disappointing thought not a surprise. The New York Times had great live-blogging coverage of the whole session.

With just a couple weeks until the NY Senate will vote on the Gay Marriage bill, things are not looking so hot for us. We need at least 32 votes for the bill to pass, and right now we only have 20.
Comment (0)The New York Assembly passed the Marriage Equality Bill today. Sound familiar? That’s because this happened two years ago, only to be squashed by the Senate.
Hopefully this time will be different. The pressure is certainly on, with 5 states having legalized same-sex marriage in the last 2 months. However, the opposition has also turned up the heat by threatening to disassociate with any Republican Senators who support the bill.
The Senate doesn’t vote for several weeks, so what do we do in the meantime? Glad you asked! Here’s what we can do:
- Email your Senator and urge him/her to support the Bill
- Attend the Action=Marriage Equality rally this weekend in midtown
- Email Sen. Reuben Diaz, Sr. and tell him its wrong to deny NYers equal rights!
