Another major item has been checked off our list! After many months of research, we’ve decided to have Irene’s suit custom made by Mr. Ned, a custom tailor in our neighborhood since 1965. We discovered him via my co-worker Chris at Behavior (like how I snuck Behavior in?) who had two gorgeous suits made there.
Anyone who has bought a men’s style suit for a woman knows it ain’t easy. The shoulders are way too broad, and the hips and seat are always too snug. Irene has worn suits in the past, and while she looked great, the tailoring cost as much as the suit. Plus, once you find one that fits you’re pretty limited in styles, fabrics, etc which is not something we’re willing to compromise for our wedding day.

Comments (5)I did it! I bought my dress! A couple months ago I mentioned that I was pretty sure I wanted a Stephanie James dress, but not surprisingly, I changed my mind.
I’m not going to spill the beans, but I bought it during the Melissa Sweet trunk show at Saks. I had seen the dress two other times at the Priscilla of Boston store in midtown but the customer service at Saks was far superior so I felt better buying it there. I think I got the best possible price and the timing is just right.
My plan is to get measured after the new year (as an incentive to not pig out over the holidays.) I decided to do a muslin to ensure a perfect fit. The whole process will take 6-8 months. I can hardly wait!

Since Day 1, I have been smitten with one dress by Stephanie James Couture and although I’ve searched extensively and tried to keep an open mind, I haven’t found anything that even comes close.
When thinking about my dress there were only two things I knew for sure. First, it had to be tea-length or cocktail length. Second, it would most likely be A-line since that’s the most flattering for my figure. The A-line part was easy enough, but looking for only tea-length was extremely limiting. During a very intense Google session, my friend found Stephanie James an independent designer in southern California. read more »

I am a big fan of the tv show Say Yes to the Dress, and thanks to my friend Karen, I was finally able to go for the “Kleinfeld Experience.” read more »
